I taught these nursery rhymes and songs, from
various unknown sources, to the pre-school children at the Lakeview YWCA, Peoria, Illinois, 1969 -1978. Some of them were taught to the grade school children at Teodora Cruz Elementary School, Hagonoy, Bulacan; Cabatuan Elementary School, Isabela, and Rodriguez Elementary School, Caloocan City, Philippines.
There are a few Girl Scout songs added to this compilation.
BODY PARTS:
My Body
This is the circle that is my head.
This is my mouth with which words are said.
These are my eye with which I see.
This is my nose that’s part of me.
This is the hair that grows on my head.
This is my hat all pretty and red.
This is the feather so bright and gay.
Now, I’m all ready for school today.
How It Goes (Body Parts)
These are my ears and I have two
These are my eyes and I see you
This is my chin that moves to talk
And I use my legs to take a walk.
See how I breathe through my nose
I have to bend to touch my toes
So, this is how it goes.
Shoulders, chest, arms and head
And with all of them, jump into bed.
Ears, eyes, and chin,
Legs, toes, and chest
Nose, shoulders, arms
Ang then the head
So, this is how it goes.
Fingers
This is the way my fingers stand (3x)
This is the way my fingers stand
So early in the morning
(dance about/fold my hands)
This is the way they go to rest (3x)
(Cup hands loosely, palms up and place in lap)
Busy Fingers
This is the way my fingers stand (3x)
So early in the morning.
This is the way then dance about (3x)
So early in the morning.
This is the way I fold my hands (3x)
So early in the morning.
This is the way they go to rest (3x)
(Cup hands loosely, palms up and place in lap
Five Fingers
Five fingers on this hand – (right)
Five fingers on that hand – (left)
A dear little nose
A mouth like a rose
Two cheeks so tiny and fat
Two eyes, two ears
And ten little toes
That’s the way the baby grows.
I’ve Got an L-O-V-E
I’ve got an L-O-V-E
Here in my heart I’ve got it (3x)
I’ve got an L-O-V-E
Here in my heart I’ve got
Here in my heart to stay.
(I’ve got an L-O-V-E
Here in my head I got it.
Here in mouth I got it.
Here in my ears I got it.
Here in my hands I got it.
Here in my feet I got it.
All over me I got it to stay.)
Ten Little Fingers
I have ten little fingers
And they all belong to me
I can make them do things
Would you like to see?
I can shut them up tight
Or open them wide.
I can put them together
Or make them all hide.
I can make them jump high
I can make them jump low
I can fold them quietly
And hold them just so.
Hands
My right hand touches my nose – so
My left hand touches my toes
My right hand touches my knee
My left hand makes a great big C.
My right hand goes behind my back
My left hand gives my hip a smack
My right hand taps my shoulder now
My left hand helps me make a bow.
Now I’m in school and I must n\know
My left and right and not be slow
Which right? Which left?
I’ll never miss
And now with both, I’ll throw a kiss.
Hands on Your Shoulders
Hands on shoulders, hands on knees
Hands behind you, if you please
Touch your shoulders, now your toes
Now your hair, and now your nose.
Hands up high in the air
Down at your sides
Now touch your hair.
Hands up high as before
Now clap your hands 1-2-3-4.
Clapping Hands
Clapping, clapping, clap, clap, clap (2x)
Clapping, clapping, softly clap
Clapping, clapping, time to stop.
Nodding, nodding, nod, nod, nod (2x)
Nodding, nodding, slowly nod
Nodding, nodding, time to stop.
Tapping, tapping, tap, tap, tap (2x)
Tapping, tapping, quietly tap
Tapping, tapping, time to stop.
Hands Up! Hands Down!
Hands up, hands down (2x)
Watch them go up
Watch them come down
Hands up, hands down.
Busy Body
Two little feet go tap, tap, tap.
Two little hands go clap, clap, clap.
Two little leap up from the chair.
Two little arms go up in the air.
Two little hands go thump, thump, thump.
Two little feet go jump, jump, jump.
One little body goes round and round
One little child sits quietly down.
My Hands
Open them; shut them
Give a little clap
Open them; shut them
Put them in your lap.
Creep them; creep them
Slowly upward to your rosy cheeks
Open wide your shiny eyes
And through your fingers peep.
My Nose
It doesn’t breathe; it doesn’t smell
It doesn’t feel so very well
I’m discouraged with my nose
The thing it does is blow.
Sneezing
Air comes in tickly through my nose
Then very quickly out it goes, ahh-choo!
With every sneeze I have to do
I make a breeze, ahh-choo!
Two Hands
Two little hand so soft and white
This is the left; this is the right
Five little fingers standing on each
So I can hold a plum or a peach
But when I get as big as you
I’ll show you what these hands can do.
Little Men

A little man came out this house
He looked up the street (point thumb up)
He didn’t see anybody
He looked down the street (thumb down)
He didn’t see anybody

He didn’t see anybody
So he went back in his house.
Both little men came out of their houses
They looked up the street
They didn’t see anybody
They looked down the street
They didn’t see anybody
They looked across the street
“Hello,” they said (wave thumbs)
Then they went back in their little houses.
Fee, Fie, Fo, Fum
Fee, fie, fo, fum
(Point to little fingers)
See my finger

My Face
Eye winker (point to the left eye)
Tom tinker (point to the right eye)
Nose smeller

Chin chopper, chin chop
Chin chopper, chin (touch chin)
My Hands Upon My Head
My hands up on my head I place
Up on my shoulders on my face
At my waist and by my side
And then behind me, they will hide
And I’ll raise them way up high
And make my fingers fly, fly, fly
And clap, clap, clap and 1, 2, 3
And see how quiet they can be.
I am Glad
I am glad for two bright eyes
To see the world so bright
To wink and blink and close so tight
At bedtime every night.
I am glad for my little ears
To hear the meadow lark
To her the wind blow oo-oo-oo
And hear the doggies’ bark.
I am glad for my little nose
To smell the flowers sweet
And I am glad I have a mouth
That can smile and talk and eat.
I am glad for my two hands
That can clap and play
I am glad for legs and feet
To run and skip all day.

He flaps his arms from left to right
And scares away old blackie crow.

And a gobble, gobble, gobble
All the turkeys spread their feathers

When they see the farmer, coming
All the turkeys start a running
And they say

Foolish Question
I met a turkey gobbler
When I went out to play
O, Mr. Turkey gobbler
“How are you today?”
“Gobble, gobble, gobble
That I cannot say.”
“Don’t ask me such a question
On Thanksgiving Day.”

Let’s make a snowball
Toss it at his hat
Off it goes, just like that.

It made a blanket soft and white.
It covered the houses, flowers and ground
But did not make a single sound.

Activity Songs – Nothing to Do
Marching
So he marched and he marched
He paraded all around
Up and down, in and out
Up and down, turn about
He marched everywhere
From room to room.
He marched everywhere
He paraded all around
In the kitchen, in the parlor
In the bedrooms, in the hall
And said, “That’s enough
It’s time to stop.
Jumping
The he jumped & jumped so very high
Jumped & jumped so very high
He jumped & jumped so high
Jumped and jumped
And stopped for a breath
Then he went right on jumping, jumping
Till he could jump no more.
Tip-Toe Song
The he tip-toed here
And he tip-toed there
Up and down, to and fro
Not too fast, not too slow
He tip-toed around without a sound
Tip-toe here and tip-toe there
In the kitchen, in the parlor
In the bedrooms, in the hall
He said “That’s enough
It’s time to stop.”
Skating
Skating, skating on the ice
Round and round, gently glide
Round and round, smoothly glide
He skated everywhere.

Till he said “I’ll have to stop,
there’s no more ice.”
